Nintendo's September Directs: Every Switch 2 Release Date Announced, From Ocarina of Time to Metroid Ravenous

What happened?

Nintendo ran two broadcasts back to back. On September 8, 2026, a special presentation for The Legend of Zelda's 40th anniversary focused on the series. On September 9, a roughly 45-minute general Nintendo Direct covered the wider Switch 2 lineup for winter and beyond. Between them, a long list of games received firm dates.

Zelda's 40th anniversary

The centerpiece is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, first announced in June, which now has a date: November 5, 2026, exclusively on Switch 2. Series producer Eiji Aonuma showed it rebuilt with new visuals while keeping the feel of the Nintendo 64 original, and coverage of the presentation describes voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, an orchestral score and reworked camera and controls. A Zelda-themed Switch 2 console, dock and Joy-Con 2 set arrives first, on October 29. Coverage also reports that Shigeru Miyamoto gave the live-action film adaptation its title, The Legend of Zelda, and an April 30, 2027 theatrical date.

Metroid Ravenous

The biggest new announcement was Metroid Ravenous, a new side-scrolling Metroid for Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Samus is ambushed and stranded on an unfamiliar moon and, in Nintendo's description, uses newly awakened Metroid instincts to devour enemies. Nintendo also announced Samus and Chozo Statue amiibo for launch, and a Special Edition with a steel case and a third amiibo.

Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2

Capcom confirmed Monster Hunter Wilds for Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, with the title updates already released on other platforms, local wireless play between Switch 2 systems and online cross-play. Capcom says the upcoming Ascendance expansion will also come to Switch 2 in 2027.

Why it matters

After a Switch 2 price increase to $499.99 on September 1, Nintendo needed a strong holiday and early-2027 lineup, and it now has one with a firm date every few weeks. The mix — a flagship Zelda remake, a brand-new 2D Metroid, and major third-party ports like Monster Hunter Wilds, Resident Evil and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — also shows how much more third-party support Switch 2 is getting than its predecessor did at the same point.
