What happened?
PlayStation announced October's PlayStation Plus Monthly Games on its official blog on September 30, 2026. Every paying tier — Essential, Extra and Premium — can add three games to their library from Tuesday, October 6 until Monday, November 2: F1 25 (PS5), Crytek's extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown 1896 (PS5), and the voxel co-op shooter Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 (PS4 and PS5).
That's one game fewer than September, which offered four. PlayStation hasn't explained the smaller lineup, and three-game months are not new, but the drop landed badly with some subscribers, judging by the reactions ComicBook.com reported.
The Japan swap
In Japan, according to ComicBook.com and Reddit posts it cites, Hunt: Showdown 1896 was replaced in the October lineup by Hello Neighbor, a 2017 stealth-horror game with weak critical scores. ComicBook.com reported no official explanation from PlayStation. Regional lineup differences usually come down to ratings or licensing, but that's an inference, not something PlayStation has said.
What's leaving on October 20
Extra and Premium subscribers are losing several catalog games on October 20, according to PlayStation's in-console "last chance to play" listings as reported by multiple outlets. The list consistently includes:
- Silent Hill 2 (PS5)
- Yakuza: Like a Dragon (PS4, PS5)
- Jurassic World Evolution 2 (PS4, PS5)
- Gloomhaven (PS4, PS5)
- Harvest Moon: Light of Hope (PS4)
- Lake (PS4, PS5)
- Rogue Lords (PS4)
- Death Squared (PS4)
Some reports also list Harvest Moon: One World, which is why counts in other coverage range from seven to nine. If a game you're playing is on the list, finish it or buy it before October 20 — save data stays, but subscription access ends.
Why it matters
Silent Hill 2's remake is one of the most acclaimed horror games of recent years, and its exit right before Halloween is the kind of timing subscribers notice. Combined with a smaller Monthly Games list, October is a useful moment to check whether your tier still fits how you play — especially with console prices up this year.
What we don't know yet
- Which games join the Extra and Premium catalog — PlayStation is expected to announce them around October 14
- Whether November returns to four Monthly Games
What happens next
Claim September's Monthly Games before October 6 if you haven't, add October's three from October 6, and watch for the Extra and Premium reveal mid-month. One catalog addition is already known: Mycopunk was announced during a State of Play to launch directly into PS Plus Extra on October 20.
