A leak, days before the official reveal
In August 2026, extended Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay clips spread on social media ahead of Rockstar's planned reveal. Rockstar publicly acknowledged the footage was genuine, saying it was "heartbreaking for our team" to see it surface this way and that it was "not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time." This is a separate, more recent incident from the well-known original GTA VI leak of September 2022 — the two should not be confused.
The Extended Look premiere
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premiered on Netflix on August 27, 2026, days after the leak, reportedly at 3 p.m. ET with a roughly six-hour Netflix-exclusivity window before the same special went up on Rockstar's own YouTube channel and official site. Reporting on the special describes it as around 27 minutes of footage, captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5 hardware.
Why a game trailer premiered on Netflix
Coverage of the partnership describes Netflix as having approached Rockstar directly, framing the deal as part of a push into major cultural moments rather than a traditional games-press exclusive. Several outlets characterized it as a signal that Rockstar and Netflix both consider Grand Theft Auto VI a major entertainment event, not just a game launch — an interpretation from reporting, not an official Rockstar statement.
