Young Volunteers, Stronger Communities
When people think about the problems of a town, they often expect solutions to come from governments or large companies. Yet in many places, some of the most useful changes start with young people who decide to give their time for free. Volunteering is not a new idea, but today's young volunteers bring new skills and a lot of energy.
In a small coastal town, a group of secondary school students noticed that the beach was covered with plastic every summer. Instead of complaining, they created a club, contacted a local association and organised clean-up days every Sunday morning. At first, only twelve students came. After a few months, more than a hundred people, including parents and shop owners, were taking part. The town council later agreed to install recycling bins along the beach.
Volunteering also benefits the volunteers themselves. Many young people say that it helps them become more confident and responsible. They learn how to work in a team, how to speak in public and how to solve problems. Some of them even discover what they want to study at university. Employers increasingly value this kind of experience because it shows initiative and commitment.
Technology has also changed the way young people volunteer. Thanks to social media, a single post can bring dozens of helpers to an event in a few hours. Some students volunteer online: they translate documents for associations, design posters or give free lessons by video to children in remote villages. These new forms of volunteering allow young people to help even when they cannot travel, and they make it easier for associations to reach people who were not interested before. Of course, online help cannot replace every kind of action on the ground, but the two forms can work together.
However, volunteering is not always easy. Students have exams and family duties, and some feel that their efforts are not recognised. Associations sometimes lack money and equipment. To keep young people motivated, experts suggest giving them real responsibilities, thanking them publicly and offering short training courses.
In the end, young volunteers do more than clean beaches or help elderly neighbours. They show that every citizen, whatever their age, can make a difference. As one student put it, 'We didn't change the world, but we changed our street, and that was a good start.'

د. منهجية الامتحان
كيف يمكن أن يرد الدرس في الامتحان؟
- قسم Comprehension (15/40): نص أو أكثر، مجموع كلماته 350–450 كلمة (بهامش 10%) حسب الإطار؛ ويُستحسن أن يرتبط بموضوعات المقرر، ومنها موضوعات النصوص الإضافية.
- ثلاث إلى ست تقنيات وثلاث إلى ست تعليمات في قسم الفهم؛ بين 10 و24 بنداً؛ ولا يُخصم في الفهم على أخطاء النحو والإملاء.
البنية المنتظرة للجواب
- اقرأ الأسئلة أولاً، ثم النص قراءة سريعة (skimming).
- ابحث عن المعلومات المطلوبة (scanning) بترتيب الأسئلة، فهي تأتي بترتيب النص.
- لكل سؤال عن معنى كلمة أو مرجع ضمير، عد إلى الفقرة المحددة.
خطوات العمل
- حدد الفكرة العامة لكل فقرة في كلمتين.
- في True/False with justification: انقل الجملة التي تبرر الجواب.
- في الاستنتاج (inference): اعتمد على النص لا على رأيك.
أخطاء تضيع النقط
- جواب صحيح بلا تبرير حين يُطلب التبرير.
- نقل فقرة كاملة بدل الجملة الدالة.
- الخلط بين رأي الكاتب ورأي القارئ.
